ST FieldScout SC950 Soil Compaction Meter
Soil compaction is a common challenge in crop production and can develop from repeated equipment traffic, field operations under wet conditions and other management practices. As soil particles become compressed, pore space is reduced, restricting the movement of air and water through the soil profile. Excessive compaction can limit root development, reduce water infiltration and nutrient uptake, and ultimately impact crop health and yield potential.
The SC 950 Soil Compaction Meter provides growers with an objective way to measure soil resistance and identify compacted areas or restrictive layers within the soil profile. With accurate field data, producers can better understand where compaction is occurring and determine where corrective management practices may be needed.
